Charity football match reaches £200k fundraising milestone

The fifth edition of a charity football match saw it smash through the £200,000 barrier in funds raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) to help make a difference to the lives of seriously ill children.

Goals 4 GOSH, principally sponsored by Funeral Partners and Choice Funeral Plans, brought together stars from sport, television, music and social media to raise an amazing £51,203.

This means since it began in 2021, Goals 4 GOSH has raised more than £212,000 to support children who are having to spend time at the London hospital.

This year’s match took place at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium for the first time and featured a debut Goals 4 GOSH appearance for Premier League winner and Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.

Funeral Partners Regional Development Director Jamie Groves, who is one of the event founders and organisers, along with his friend Charlotte Styles said: “This 2025 edition of Goals 4 GOSH was absolutely incredible.

“I can’t thank the people who supported us enough.

“To have raised more than £200,000 since we started is, quite simply, unbelievable. We never, ever thought it would become anything close to what it is, but I am so proud to be a part of it.”

Sarah Bissell, Deputy Director of Public Fundraising at GOSH Charity, said: “We are so grateful to Goals 4 GOSH for their continued support, having raised an incredible £200,000 to date through their dedicated fundraising.

“Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved at their recent match, which raised over £50,000, this money will make a huge difference in giving seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.  GOSH Charity believes no childhood should be lost to serious illness and every penny raised through this event will help us in our fight to achieve that.”

Kelly Hailou, Marketing Director at Funeral Partners, said: “We are so proud to support Goals 4 GOSH.

“Jamie and Charlotte’s fundraising efforts have been truly remarkable over the years, and the energy and enthusiasm they show every year is incredible.”

On the pitch, the Dolphin Dons triumphed over the Woodpecker Wombles in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw across the 90 minutes.

Alongside Hazard, the match also featured fellow football stars Adrian Mariappa, Wayne Routledge and England Lioness and long-time Goals 4 GOSH supporter Lianne Sanderson, plus social media stars like Danny Aarons and Jay Porter.

The next Goals 4 GOSH fixture will see a team from the charity games take on the GOSH Heroes – a squad made up of doctors, nurses and staff from the hospital at Bromley Football Club’s Hayes Lane stadium on Saturday, July 20 at 2pm.
